Deadlock Positive elements of product: -Use of editing and colour is effective at the start of product as it introduces the character and creates an enigma as he is in a fairly dark, mysterious setting. It also provides a sense of time and shows that the character is having a flashback -Sound used is very clear and easy for the audience to understand -Transitions between scenes is effective as it illustrates the story to the audience in an interesting way -Costumes and props are effective -The titles relate to the genre of the product and look professional
Areas for improvement: -The storyline is a bit vague, and the audience don’t really understand what is actually going on- how do the different scenes relate to one another?
-in the institutions there could have been another referral to the zombies between the first and third. -the zoom towards the barbed wire could have been slower
-lighting is good, emphasizes the tense atmosphere -costume goes well with genre -continuity is good
Positive: *Good use of sound and lighting to create tensions and spooky feeling. *Rocky music fits well with the theme along with music at the start to create the perfect enigma. *Close ups help the audience to see who the main character is as well as a very good use of props. *Flash backs help interest the audience along with good use of contrasting colours. *News clips fit in well with theme along with mystery being created with the scientist clips. *The way clips are used in between the Universal logo help create enigma and help the audience see that the film is zombie themed.
Improvements: *Shaky camera movements help with enigma however in some parts the camera movements could be more steady. *Voice over needs to be more clear *The change in actors is slightly confusing along with the all the different characters in the opening without introduction. *The frame at 0:27 is slightly to bright for a zombie themed film.
We like the fact that whilst the credits for universal pictures are coming, the film monsters are interrupting and therefore create a great suspense straight away. We also really like the credits and how they create a gritty effect along side the clips of what is going on. However, even though we like this, we think that the clips shown, make the opening look a bit like a trailer, if less clips were shown until after the main title ‘Deadlock’, it would look less like a trailer.
PROS = - We felt the group had a good understanding of the genre; the integrated zombie clips whilst the opening was playing showed this. - The music used highlighted the tension and made the audience feel apprehensive. - The lighting used is really effective when highlighting the main character. - The shooting scenes of the zombies were very realistic which made the film more believable. CONS = - When the main character is on the telephone the conversation is muffled and hard to hear.
